My fondest memory from high school was Valentine's Day, a day that used to be my least favorite holiday. I was fortunate enough to date an amazing guy who gave me a dozen long stemmed red roses at the start of the first semester, which made me feel incredibly special. However, walking around with them all day in front of girls who didn't receive anything made me feel uneasy. So, I took the initiative to cut the small red bow that held the roses together and gave them away, one by one, to each girl in my classroom. I wanted them to feel special too. To this day, I remember the guy asking me where all the roses he gave me went and I told him that I appreciated the flowers but I wanted to spread the joy of Valentine's Day by giving each girl in my classroom a rose so they could feel appreciated too. He smiled and that was all the gift I needed. It's a memory that I will always cherish and share with my kids someday, and it taught me the lesson that going out of my way to make others happy can create memories that last a lifetime.
