New! 2012 Scholarships Announced

In 2008, one of the first objectives of the newly formed Albemarle High School Alumni Association was to establish a way for alumni and friends to support current students though a scholarship program that provides direct cash assistance to deserving AHS seniors each year..

That goal was realized in 2009 when the Albemarle High School Alumni Association Scholarship Program was established and the first two scholarships were awarded. You can read more about these scholarships and the 15 more that were awarded in 2010, 2011 and 2012 below. We have been able to icrease the number of scholarships awarded every year since the program began.

How Can I Participate

The funding of our Program comes from tax-deductible donations by members of the Albemarle High School Alumni Association, other graduates of Albemarle, and the general public. 100% of donations to the Scholarship Fund are given to students in the form of checks to the college or university the student will be attending. Contibutions to the Program can be made for any amount are applied to the following two program components as designated by the donor:

Funded Scholarships ($500 or More) - With a donation of $500.00 or more, a donor can fund a scholarship in memory or in honor of a family or friend, a classmate, favorite faculty member or a business The donor and appropriate information is presented along with the check on Senior Night and are listed on our website. Funded scholarships are typically awarded in the amount of $500 and $1,000.

Undesignated Donations: Donations that are not designated to fund a specific scholarship are used to fund additional scholarships or to supplement the Scholarship Fund to provide additional scholarsips in the future.

Scholarships are presented and donors are recognized during AHS Senior Night in May of each year.

Scholarship Program Highlights

Scholarships are presented at the AHS Senior Night Program each year.

We are pleased to report that we have provided financial assistance in the form of scholarships to AHS seniors in pursuit of higher education every year since 2009. Click on the appropriate year below to see details and photos of the students that have received scholarships in recent years:

2012 - four $500 scholarships and 2 $1,000 scholarship (details soon)
2011 - four $500 and one $1,000 scholarship.
2010 - three $500 scholarships
2009 - two $500 scholarships

As of this posting in late 2012, we have raised $17,850 for our Scholarship Fund thanks to our Supporting Members and the public.

Scholarship Criteria and Award

Scholarships are awarded based on need, merit and demonstrated contribution to the Albemarle community. We work very closely with the Guidance Department at Albemarle. They distribute our Scholarship Application Form to seniors and collect the completed forms from those wishing to enter. The Guidance Department attaches grades for the student’s years at Albemarle High School and the applicant's student college write-ups if available. After their review, recommendations are made and reviewed with the Alumni Association. Final selections are made and announced by the Alumni Association. CHecks are presented to the recipients by Alumni Association members and/or donors at the Senior Night program at Albemarle..
