Penelope Layman Ray, 84, of Charlottesville, VA died on April 2, 2025, at The Lady of Peace.

Born July 12, 1940, in Batesville, VA, she was the daughter of William Samuel and Mary Virginia Layman.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Ann Layman, and her brother Donald Wayne Layman.

Penny was a wonderful sister. We have a lot of good memories that will never be forgotten. We know she is at peace now. Penny loved her family which brought her great joy. She held family gatherings at her house for many years. We are still talking about them and the fun we had. Penny enjoyed working at her Church and helping out whenever she could. Penny worked at many Banks for many years before retiring. Penny also worked at Timberlakes Drug Store part time.

Penny is survived by her brothers, Rev William Anthony “Tony” Layman of Winchester, VA and James Barry Layman of Amelia, County and his wife Carol Layman. Her sister, Rosemary Layman Leddon of Goldvein, VA and her husband Sam Leddon. She had an extended family of many nieces and nephews and cousins and special friends.

The family will receive friends at 1000 a.m. Tuesday April 15th in the Ivy Creek United Methodist Church social hall.

The Funeral service will be conducted at 1100 a.m. Tuesday April 15th in the Ivy Creek United Methodist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Ivy Creek United Methodist Church, 674 Woodlands Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
