Larry Anthony Alexander - Class Of 1979

On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Larry "Tony" Anthony Alexander loving son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his sister and four nieces at his side. His last words were "don't cry it will be ok." Born in Asheboro, N.C., to the late Larry Thomas and Ethel Routh Alexander on December 8, 1960, Tony was 60 years old.

After graduating from Albemarle High School in 1979 worked at Frank IX & Sons, a textile plant as a loom fixer until his accident on August 11, 1983, which left him paralyzed from the chest down. Tony went to Woodrow Wilson in Fishersville, Va., to gain more muscle control while taking courses in Business and Administration. In 1994, he took computer graphic classes from Doug Owens at Technology Tamers in Charlottesville, then went back to Woodrow Wilson where he learned to drive his own van with less than zero effort. Tony started building his business "ADI Solutions, INC." Expanding his business in 1997 to include web page design, technical support, and email application.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Larry; mother Ethel; and brother, Gregory Scott Alexander. He is survived by his sister and caregiver, Francelia Lynn Alexander and friend, Aubrey Saunders; his nephew, Matthew Spradlin; four nieces, Cassie and her husband, Chris Herring, Ashley Lee, Lydia, and Kaitie Spradlin, of Charlottesville; and great nieces and nephews, Kylie Herring and her fiance Liam Bibb, Miley Herring, Reagan and Levi Morris, Akira Lee, and Mason Baker.

Special thanks go out to our Cousin, Jim Ingold of Randleman, N.C., who Tony would talk to by phone every day to lift his spirits and joke around. A very special caregiver Susan Balmforth who went through cancer treatment in 2017 the same time Tony had throat cancer, and Mike Cummings that has always helped the family in their time of need. Childhood friends that never left even after the accident Eddie Dowdy and his wife Sharon, Pat Geiling, and Jim Yarbough just to name a few.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Hollymead Fire and Rescue, University of Virginia Hospital, Doctors and Nurses, Dr. McFarland, Dr. Jaffe, and the Emily Couric Cancer Center for the tender care they provided to my brother

A "Celebration of Life" picnic is set for June 5, 2021, at the Elks Lodge outdoors shelter from 1 until 3 p.m. (we ask that you bring your chair(s).
