Margaret Mairs - Class Of 2020

March 15, 2002 - May 15, 2022

Margaret "Mickey" V. Mairs, 20, beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece and steadfast friend died peacefully at home in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Mickey was born on March 15, 2002, in Charlottesville. She attended Country Cottage Preschool, Broadus Wood Elementary, Tandem Friends School, and graduated from Albemarle High School (2020).

Mickey was a vibrant part of her school, music, and work communities. Her effervescent energy and gentle demeanor drew in lifelong friends, and her zest for life will be missed by all who loved her. Her life was full and her interests– diverse like the colors of the rainbow. She was bold and courageous and loved skateboarding, sailing, music festivals, theater, swimming, art, audio/visual recording, horseback riding and hanging out with her friends. She also took great pride in her work as a Lifeguard for pools of the City of Charlottesville and ACAC. A particular passion of Mickey's was making audio/video recordings of her original songs with fellow artist friends. Performing was her dream, and she lived her life following her heart.

As evidenced by humming in key before she could even speak, Mickey had a natural affinity for music and she began singing and playing piano at the Music Education Center from ages 3 through 10. As a child, she delighted the audience when she hoola-hooped on a stage while her Daddy's band played. As a student at Tandem, she continued studying various instruments and acting, along with voice coaching at the Center for Vocal Study. At AHS, she sang in two choirs. These endeavors afforded Mickey many opportunities to be on stage to the delight of her audiences. Mickey's passion and talent for singing awarded her a soprano spot in the Virginia All-State Choir in 2020.

Mickey was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Vaughan Mairs; grandparents, Margaret M. and James B. Mead, and Daniel A. Mairs; and aunt, Margaret G. Mead.

She is survived by her mother, Anna Mead Mairs of Charlottesville, Va.; grandmother, Virginia Vaughan Mairs of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; uncle, John Mairs (Beverly) of Charleston, W.Va.; uncle, Joe Mead of Charlottesville, Va.; aunt, Mary Otis Mead of Salem, Va.; and many cousins and second cousins with whom she was close.

A Celebration of Her life will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Teague Funeral Services, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
