Benjamin Scott Breece - Class Of 2014

Benjamin Scott Breece, aged 24, tragically left this world due to a car accident on September 19, 2020. The departure of his thoughtful, gentle soul is felt strongly by his mother Susan, sister, Amelia, half siblings, Olin, Quinn, Vanessa, and Adam and everyone he came into contact with.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert Olin Breece and grandparents, Lawrence and Amelia Herndon and Doris and George Hamman.

Ben was up for anything especially if it involved the outdoors and adventure. He loved traveling, caving, snowboarding, hunting with friends, camping and hiking. All that he chose to do, be it a 2- week Outward Bound trip on a sailing ship off the coast of Maine, volunteering at Stony Point fire station number 6, working on a goat farm, a tree farm, and an organic vegetable farm revealed a young man that would never stop engaging in pursuits that build physical strength and character.

Ben was a Boy Scout thru his high school years, enjoying the comradery and learning new skills. He volunteered to tutor younger students in high school, was the sound engineer in a Charlottesville band called Sisters and Brothers and was teaching himself to play the guitar. Ben had a keen interest in philosophy and was a fitness devotee and a health enthusiast. He loved to cook and eat. Ben dreamed of buying land and building a tree farm or growing organic vegetables.

Even as a youngster, Ben was "mom's best buddy" and showed interest and enthusiasm for new experiences. All recall his fascination for insects as a child which he collected in earnest and tried without much success to sell at a backyard stand. Ben had a very close relationship with his father and they enjoyed many boy scout father/sons camping trips. Ben was comfortable in any social situation and would often seek out conversations with people. They often commented later on his intelligence, sense of humor and how personable he was. He is fondly remembered by classmates at Hollymead Elementary School, Baker Butler Middle School and Albemarle High School.

Ben graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana with a degree in mechanical engineering and was employed by Dominion Power in Richmond, Virginia. He was a member of the Theta Kappa Zeta fraternity where he made dear friends that he often kept in touch with and visited.

The world is a little less bright without this wonderful man.
