Teresa Marie "Terry" Higgins - Class Of 1978




Teresa Marie "Terry" Higgins, 53, of Scottsville, Virginia, got her wings on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at home with her family by her side.

She was born on July 1, 1959, in Goochland, Virginia, to Sara Hayslett and the late Ernest Hayslett.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John R. Higgins and Ernie Hayslett.

Terry was a very special person. She touched everyone's heart that she came in contact with, always having a smile on her face and greeting them with a hug. Terry attended day support where she was with lots of friends. She loved to swim, bowl, and color pictures. Terry never missed a day of "work" or day support. Terry graduated from Albemarle High School.

Terry was a special part of the lives of her sister, Penny and her husband, James Mayo; and a special niece, Reba Layman. She was also a good friend to Cody Tyree where she lived for the past seven years. She brought joy into their lives. Terry is survived by her mother, Sara B. Hayslett of Scottsville; five sisters, Penny Mayo and her husband, James, of Scottsville, Debbie Gibson and her husband, Roger, of Charlottesville, Wanda Walton and her husband, Gary, of Charlottesville, Diane Hall of Richmond, Marie Johnson and her husband, Roy, of Dyke, and Donna Dean; one brother, Robert Hayslett; and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of Terry's life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Park Lane Free Will Baptist Church, 112 Park Lane West, Charlottesville, with Pastor Don Helms officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Some very special friends will serve as pall bearers, Brian Roberts, Todd Harvey, Cody Tyree, Rob Mayo, Roger Gibson, Keith Herring and Barbara Wilfong.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2012, at Park Lane Free Will Baptist Church. Friends are more than welcome to gather at the home of Penny and James Mayo to continue Terry's celebration. The family gives special thanks to Ruth Ewers of Region Ten, Terry's case manager and friend for 18 years, Lutheran Family Services, Legacy Hospice, and Downtown Medical.
