Amit A. Durve - Class Of 1992

Amit Durve grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was born on Sunday, November 26, 1974, in Pune, India where he lived until 1988, when he moved to the United States with his parents and brother.  Amit was brought up in a loving family with strong family values.  In 2004, Amit's job took him to Herndon, Virginia where he made his home with his wife, Shivani.

On October 21, 2006, Amit met with a tragic accident and passed on at the Virginia Hospital Center.  He left behind a devastated grief-stricken family.  He was the beloved husband of Shivani Durve; loving son of Arun and Sushama Durve; brother of Rahul A. Durve and his wife, Bhakti Durve; son-in-law of Sunil and Rashmi Kulkarni, and brother-in-law of Supriya Kulkarni-Raje.

Amit graduated from Albemarle High School and Piedmont Community College.  He was a 1999 graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems from the McIntire School of Commerce.  For a number of years Amit worked for Verizon Communications as a software engineer.  He worked hard at improving his skills and went on to work with Oracle Corporation as a consultant.  Amit received the QOOL 2006 Award for top performance at Oracle Corporation and was highly respected by his colleagues.  He was recently hired as a consultant at Deloitte & Touche Consulting Co. in Washington, D.C.

Amit was full of life.  He had a passion for his work, enjoyed drawing, painting and loved music. He was a kind, generous and loving person whose presence warmed many lives.

During the years when Amit went to school in Charlottesville, he worked at his family-owned Maharaja Restaurant.  He loved cooking for his family and friends.  Amit and his wife, Shivani had opened the Maharaja Indian Cuisine restaurant at the University of Virginia corner prior to moving to Herndon.
