In Memory

Mathew John Horridge - Class Of 1984

Mathew J. Horridge, beloved son, brother, partner, and friend, died on April 19, in Tampa, FL, at the age of 57. Matt was born in Heidelberg, Germany, on September 23, 1966. He relocated with his family to the United States at the age of two years old, spending his childhood as a so-called "Army brat," moving to various locations throughout the United States. Matt's family settled in Charlottesville in 1982. Matt graduated from Albemarle High School in Charlottesville in 1985 and from Washington & Lee University in 1989 with a BA in Journalism. He spent his professional career as a writer; for the past 21 years, he was the Head of Content for Raymond James Investment Management in St. Petersburg, FL.

Matt was best described as generous, in both his time and in the way he loved the people around him. He was committed first and foremost to his family, providing unwavering support, a legendary listening ear, and a keenly dry wit. When he was not front-and-center at a live music show, he was supporting new restaurants and chefs. Though he'd traveled the world, his favorite place to visit was Stowe, VT. Matt was an impressive amateur photographer, an avid fan of the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning, and a tremendous supporter of the arts. He was a kind, well-rounded soul for sure; we will miss his sly smile and curly locks.

Matt is survived by his mother, Karen Horridge; partner, Karin Lewis; brother, Greg Horridge (Shannon), and sons, Chase Boyer (Karri) and John Horridge (Sam). He was a dedicated Poppi to his grandson Bo, wonderful brother-in-law to Jonathan Lewis (Nicole); and doting uncle to his many nieces and nephews: Danielle, Zack, Lily, Gunni, Ann Gardiner, Greer, and Avery. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Dave Horridge, brother Jeff Horridge, and niece Emma Lewis.

In memory of Matt's life, donations may be made to Ivy Creek United Methodist Church for their missions programs (https://ivycreekumc.org/) or to the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation (https://www.nhl.com/lightning/community/lightning-foundation).
