James Thomas "Sonny" Marshall, Jr., 50, of Earlysville, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at his home.

He was born on June 20, 1962, in Charlottesville, a son of James Thomas "Jimmy" Marshall Sr. and Linda Thacker Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vernie Marshall, Homer and Bea Thacker and Claire Bloom Wood.

Sonny was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed animals and being in nature. He loved helping people and sharing the word of God, traveling, music, reading and Biblical studies. Sonny was a jack-of-all-trades and master of many. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, son, family man and friend to many.

Survivors include his parents; his wife, Jennifer Metz Marshall; brother, Kevin G. Marshall and his life partner, Ginger K. Yancey; grandmother, Pearl Marshall; nephew, Brandon Yancey; niece, Keiara Marshall; a very special uncle, Kenny Marshall; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins; and his beloved boxers, Dozer, Jesse and Lucky.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home by the Reverend Earl H. Burton.

A book will be available for friends to share a favorite memory or photo.
