Timothy Graydon Fredrikson - Class Of 1974

Timothy Graydon Fredrikson

Timothy G. Fredrikson died on February 2, 2023, at the Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. The cause was heart failure after a long series of illnesses.

Tim was born on February 14, 1956, in Tokyo, Japan, where he was adopted by Graydon and Della May Fredrikson who were stationed there with the U.S. Army. At age 5, Tim very proudly became a U.S. citizen in a ceremony in Washington D.C.

Tim traveled with his family on their assignments to Charlottesville, Virginia, Heidelburg, Germany, Garden City, New York, and back again to Charlottesville. Upon graduation from Albemarle High School in 1974, he attended the Virginia Military Institute. He was a strong student in languages, and enlisted in the U.S. Army for language training. He studied the Polish and Czech languages at the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, California, becoming proficient in both languages, and had successive tours of duty in Europe. He later served in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf War.

Tim had a life-long interest in military history, especially the Civil War. He was an avid reenactor and story teller giving talks at historical societies and cemeteries. From early childhood he loved collecting and painting miniature model soldiers in famous battle scenes. He was devoted to cats, volunteering regularly at the SPCA.

He is survived by his three sisters, Susanne de Milt (Michael) of Stamford, Conn., Jill Fredrikson of Charlottesville, Va., and Deborah Fredrikson of Barboursville, Va.; as well as his nephew, George Anas of Tall Timbers, Md.; and his two great nephews, Brandon and Eric Anas of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by his parents.

Donations in Tim's memory may be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22901.
