Bernard Lloyd Ragland - Class Of 1972

Bernard Lloyd Ragland, 72, of Esmont, Virginia departed from this life on Monday, September 23, 2024. He was the loving son of the late Finley G. Ragland and Dorothy M. Ragland. He was preceded in death by his sister Doris L. Hawkins.

Bernard graduated from Albemarle High School. After school, he worked with Bunk Leak doing construction. He then worked at Newcomb Hall in the cafeteria. His last job he held was working for Charlottesville Gas Department. He retired from the Gas Department after 33 plus years of service as a Supervisor.

He spent a lot of time as a young adult playing softball as a hobby for Charlie Brown All-Stars. He finished playing softball for the Clear View Cleaners. He was also a member of the Chestnut Groove hunt club.

On his spare time, he would always make his early morning rounds visiting those who meant the most to him. He would do anything he could to help anyone. He was "A Jack of All Trades", able to do just about anything with his hands. He had many talents and hobbies including Garden, Hunting, Fishing. He always said, he had the best garden in Esmont.

He loved sports. He was a dedicated UNC Tarheels, New York Yankees, USC Trojans, and Pittsburg Steelers fan. He also loved attending the baseball games and basketball games of his kids.

Bernard leaves to cherish his memories his wife Patricia Ragland of 49 years; his loving children Bernetrice Nee Ragland (Courtney) of Charlottesville, VA, Carlos Ragland(Chastity Quarles) of Charlottesville, VA, Derek Ragland(Rachel) of Barboursville, VA; Four siblings Finley Ragland(Rosa) of Barboursville, VA, James Ragland(Audrey), Betty Ragland of Barboursville, VA and Louis Ragland of Keswick VA; Eight grandkids, Daysonna Ragland, J'kai Ragland, Makai Ragland, Aiden Williams, Elijah Ragland, J'Tavious Ragland, Caleb Ragland and Amari Ragland; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1675 Avon St. Ext., Charlottesville.

A repast will be served following the Memorial Service in the fellowship hall located in the lower level of the church.

The family of Bernard Ragland would like to thank everyone for all their support throughout this process. We appreciate everyone attending and those who have us in their thoughts and prayers. We would like to send a special thank you to Sherika and Shanice for taking such good care of him, special nephew Chris Ragland (Toby), Hospice of Piedmont and also a devoted friend Stevie Swingler.
