Janis C Kohl (Marshall) - Class Of 1971

Janis Kohl Marshall, 60, of Crimora, died Saturday, December 07, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Born July 26, 1953 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth Miller Kohl.  Jan was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and daughter.

She will be remembered for her optimistic attitude and generosity. Jan was full of energy and never afraid of hard work. She also loved a good party, especially if dancing and lots of laughter were involved. Jan was an incredible cook and liked nothing more than seeing her extended family enjoy one of her healthy kitchen creations at family gatherings. She was also committed to protecting the environment and was an early advocate of recycling and reducing energy consumption.

Jan was rightfully proud of her log home in the Blue Ridge Mountains and spent much of her free time working in her garden and tending to her plants. She also took tremendous pride in her daughter's academic accomplishments and, following that, her professional accomplishments. Jan will be missed dearly by her family and extensive network of friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Brooke Marshall; two sisters, Sue Goldstein and her husband Larry, and Bette Webber and her husband Greg; brother Joe Kohl and his partner Camilo Rivas; stepmother, Patricia Kohl; stepsister Jennie Coyner and her husband Dave; stepbrother Mark Aschenbach and his wife Lesley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Teague Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA and the Augusta Regional SPCA.
