During my time at AHS, I lived in the North Garden area of southern Albemarle County. After graduating from AHS in 1971, I did some residential building in the Charlottesville area for a period of time as well as automotive restoration before graduating from college in 1984. From there, I worked at the local GE division doing circuit diagnostics and design failure analysis for CNC and PLC industrial control and automation control systems for about 4 years.
After leaving GE, I ended up working for IBM in various locations for 20 some years designing automated manufacturing systems, facilities chemical delivery systems and environmental abatement systems for IBM's various semi-conductor manufacturing facilities in Manassas, VA, East Fishkill, NY, Bromont, Canada, Austin, TX, and Burlington, VT. There was a period mixed in there with IBM working as a Program Management on various DOD projects for the Department of the Navy, mostly with active and passive sonar systems.
I left IBM in 2006 after living in Vermont for 14 years and moved back to Virginia late that same year. In part because of the nature of the work I did with IBM, I ended up working on Patent and Patent Application related research and classification projects for the United States Patent and Trademark Office and for some private clients.
I am retired at this point, which is the best job I have ever had...but I digress.
At the time this is being written, I moving to a home on a tract of woodland I have acquired in Nelson County, Virginia. Building a home and creating design details that are an extension of who you into a home is art, in particular the finish detailing. I designed in sustainable systems for heating, power and all the water needs. Couple that with sustainable raised bed gardening, raising a few small critters, etc., and you can reduce your cost of living significantly.
By God's grace, as time permits and the economy allows, I also hope to spend more time on some of my many hobbies...auto repair and restoration projects(mostly German cars), building custom firearms(I love extremely accurate 1911's), audio electronics related design and build projects, etc...
I have two grown children. My daughter Alyse who is a large animal Veterinarian and my son Ryan who is involved in the music industry.
It has been an interesting journey...
I do hope to see some of the folks I knew at AHS at the next Reunion. Please contact as many folks as you can and encourage them to at least sign up on the AHS site...and hopefully, to come to our next Reunion.
In passing, we have lost a number of class members over the years. If anyone has details on any of those folks, please forward that information to Luci Craig (Kent) or post the data in the "In Memory" section of the site.

Basically, I was just glad to get through with high school...I was generally bored to tears in most of the classes.
Yes, I am, or have been, involved in planning our class reunion.
