Forrest Nathaniel Dent - Class Of 1971


Forrest Nathaniel Dent Forrest Nathaniel Dent, 59, passed on to Glory on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on April 8, 1953, son of the late Marcellus Dent and Betty Hollins Dent. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bundara Dent.

Forrest was a 1971 graduate of Albemarle High School where he is still known for creating the first Black History Month celebration that still takes place every year since. He served in the United States Army Intelligence for three years with a tour in Guam. He was employed by Floor Fashions where he was very skilled in flooring and tile work. Later he served as a Deputy Commissioner of Revenue for the City of Charlottesville.Though he always stayed busy, he always had time to read a good book or watch the History Channel.

He leaves to cherish his memories, four brothers: Macnorman Dent, Macdonald Dent, Marcellus Dent Jr. and Lorranie, and Juane Dent; one sister, Denise Dent and Jim; one daughter, April Ward and husband, Simon, of Charlottesville, Virginia; three grandchildren: Ayana, Maya, and Simon Jr. whom he loved dearly; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Mount Zion First African Baptist Church, 105 Lankford Avenue, with Minister Chauncy Brown officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration, UVA Health System and Crescent Hall staff for all of the care and love given in this time of need.
