In Memory

James Burke Bishop - Class Of 1971

James Burke Bishop, 67, of Charlottesville, Va. passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Jamie was born in Charlottesville, Va. on March 15, 1951, the son of the late Mark and Glenna Bishop. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bishop; and a son, Lucas Burke Bishop.

Jamie loved nothing more in this world than his family, and he was loved by all who met him. Jamie graduated from Albemarle High School and worked for Chessie System Railroad for 12 years. After retiring from the railroad, he pursued his true passion and built and operated an auto salvage yard in Buckingham County. He was so passionate and knowledgeable about cars that friends and family knew he quite literally brought his work home with him.

In 1982 Jamie and wife, Sandra purchased half of a mountain in Covesville, Va., and built a house together for them and their two children, and their many cats and dogs. He spent the remainder of his too-short life caring for and loving his family, working on his vintage (and modern) cars, and making all around him laugh with his endless supply of stories.

Jamie is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra Isaacs Bishop; son, Nathaniel Bishop of Apex, N.C.; daughter, Katelyn Bishop of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Mark Bishop and his wife, Wanda of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Mike Bishop of Richmond, Va.; sister, Janet Conley and her husband, Jim of Anna Maria Island, Fla., and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hill and Wood Funeral Home, Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 12 until 2 p.m. The memorial service will be private.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a local charity of your choice.
