In Memory

Randy Lee Williams - Class Of 1968

Randy "Sonny" Lee Williams, 76, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 8, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at the University of Virginia Hospital. He was the husband of Lois Williams, who he was married to for 56 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Thomas; and stepfather, Carl Thomas.

Randy was born in Charlottesville, VA, on April 4, 1948, to Carrie (Williams) Thomas, the eldest child of three. Randy grew up on a farm in Scottsville, where he was quickly instilled with a strong ethic, whether he was milking cows, feeding the farm animals, cutting wood, he always worked hard. He loved spending time with his baby sisters, Ann and Mae, and his cousin Boot, playing Cowboys and Indians, marbles in the dirt, or sledding on the farm.

Randy graduated from Albemarle High School in 1968. He met the love of his life, Lois, in 1967, and went on to marry her just 12 months later on November 23, 1968. Randy enlisted in the United States Army in January 1969. Randy was stationed in Georgia, where he proudly served our country for two years during the Vietnam Era, and retired as a Specialist-5.

Upon retiring from the US Army, Randy moved back to Virginia, where he and his wife began to make a life for themselves. Randy began working as a meat cutter at several locations in the area. He retired from Farmer Jack, and then went on to manage the meat department at Reid's Supermarket for almost 15 years. His "service with a smile" and his pride in his work immediately made him one of the best and notable butchers in town. He worked tirelessly for his family without ever a single complaint. Nothing made Randy happier than to be able to provide for his family!

Randy was an avid hunter, he loved to hunt turkey and deer. He enjoyed participating in shooting matches with his stepfather. He loved the Redskins and UVA football teams. He loved his 1975 Hunter Green Blazer, "Big Bertha". He enjoyed Sunday lunches and celebrating holidays with his favorite loved ones. In his later years, he enjoyed watching crime shows and "Days of our Lives" with his precious wife. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. But above all else, he simply enjoyed quiet time with his "Love", Lois.

Randy was one of the sweetest and most loving men to walk this Earth! He was the epitome of a family man, and loved his family fiercely! He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lois, and loved her with passion and affection, always puckering up for kisses and hugs. He centered his life around providing for his family, always putting the needs of others before his own without any hesitation. He always believed in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; no dream was too big. Randy was a happy man with the most beautiful smile that could light up a room. His laughter was infectious; there was never a dull moment with him around. He gave the best hugs that brought out the warmth in people. He was the absolute best husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends!

Randy's memory will live on in the hearts of everyone he encountered, and his legacy will live on in the generations to come!

Randy is survived by his wife, Lois Williams, of Charlottesville; sisters, Ann Gregory and Mae Spradlin, of Scottsville; children, Christie Myers, of Buckingham and Scott Williams (Sondra), of Esmont; grandchildren, Kendall Farley (Daniel), of Charlottesville, Jacob Farley (Chelsea), of Charlottesville, Katelyn Williams (Justin), of Charlottesville, Ryan Farley (Kaitlyn), of Buckingham, Christian, Jaxxson and Lincoln Williams, of Esmont; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Kinslee Fisher, of Nelson, and Kylee Frazier, of Charlottesville.
