John Denton "Denny" Maupin, 55, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, March 3, 2003, at his home as a result of heart failure. 

     Born June 3, 1947, in Charlottesville, he was the son of Margaret Thomas Maupin and the late Ira Maupin.

     He was a graduate of Albemarle High School and the University of Virginia, a member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church and a longtime Winston Cup enthusiast.

     In addition to his mother, he is survived by his spouse, Sandra Marshall Maupin ('67) a daughter, Jackie Maupin Heffernan and her husband, John of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his son, Taylor Denton Maupin and his wife, Susan of Charlottesville; a brother, Ira R. Maupin and his wife, Brenda of Snowshoe, W.Va.; a sister, Watts M. Schwab and her husband,

Butch of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Trenton and Julia Maupin.

     The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

     A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward A. Hopkins officiating.  Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, 750 Hinton Avenue Charlottesville, Va.
