Gloria Jean Suddarth (Vess) - Class Of 1964

 

 

 

Gloria Jean Suddarth Vess, 60, of Charlottesville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Stinson Suddarth and Virginia Harding Suddarth and her husband, Douglas Earl Vess Sr.

Survivors include her son, Douglas Earl Vess Jr. (whom Gloria considered God's greatest gift); one "granddog", Molly; two brothers, William Douglas Suddarth and his wife, Faye, of Marion and James "Willie" Suddarth and his wife, Joyce, of Waynesboro; one sister, Mary Ann Breeden and her husband, Carl, of Scottsville; special family friends, Ernest Dunn of Charlottesville and Tammy Dowell of Hampton; two aunts, Caroline Harding McGuigan of Annandale and Hazel Suddarth Porterfield of Charlottesville; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Since childhood, Gloria had been an active member of First Baptist Church on Park Street in Charlottesville, and she loved serving through the music ministry. She was a graduate of Albemarle High School and Martha Jefferson Hospital School of Practical Nursing and was with the Martha Jefferson Hospital from 1965 until 2001.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at First Baptist Church on Park Street in Charlottesville, with the Rev. Dr. J. Lindsay Sadler Jr. and the Rev. Leon Castle officiating. Interment will follow at Scottsville Cemetery.

A reception will be held at First Baptist Church in Charlottesville in the Youth Fellowship Hall immediately following the interment. Food contributions should be taken to the church on the day of service.

Gloria and her family wish to express special thanks to Dr. Gordon Morris and Dr. Richard Stewart and their staff.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested for the First Baptist Church Children's Music Ministry, 735 Park Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville is in charge of arrangements.
