Virginia "Ginny" Frazier Fitzhugh, 81 of Orange, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Martha Jefferson House.

She was born on August 13, 1939, in Charlottesville, Virginia, daughter of the late James Raymond Frazier and Emma McDaniel Frazier.

Virginia is survived by her loving (bossy) daughter, Jennifer Fitzhugh Faulconer and her husband, John Y. Faulconer; granddaughter, Virginia "Jenna" Conway Faulconer; grandson, Judson Ray Faulconer, all of Orange; sisters, Thelma Garrison of Stony Point, and Glory Nash of Stanardsville; sister-in-law, Judy Fitzhugh Estes and her husband, Joe, of Stanardsville; daughter-in-law, Laurie Fitzhugh Travers of Zion Crossroads; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Rocky Fitzhugh; her son (the apple of her eye) Rodney Conway Fitzhugh; and her sister, Irene Hicks of Fluvanna.

Known as Ginny in her younger days, Virginia was a 1960 graduate of Albemarle High School and Martha Jefferson Hospital School of Practical Nursing. Virginia was happiest living in the home she and Rocky built in Spotswood Trail where they hosted many parties, cook-outs, and Saturday night card games.

Virginia volunteered in many community organizations over the years including the Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, William Monroe PTO, William Monroe Athletic Boosters, Greene County Architectural Survey Group, Blue Ridge B&B and Lodging Association, Greene Hills Country Club Ladies Golf Association, GHCC Gators Swim Team and was instrumental in overseeing kitchen renovations at Grace Episcopal Church.

She was also a driving force in getting the Stanardsville Historic District entered in the National Register of Historic Places by the US Dept. of Interior, National Park Service in 2004.

During her 31 years as General Registrar of Voters for Greene County, Virginia transitioned the county to computer technology and peacefully managed all elections.

She demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit by opening SunDaze tanning salon to finance her daughter's college tuition and operating The Fitzhugh Cottage guest house for many years. Virginia was a take-charge person, who always got the job done. After retiring she worked part-time at the Greene County Clerk's Office and kept Rocky out of trouble.

Affectionately known by many as Nanny, she especially loved visits with Jenna and Judson and celebrating their numerous accomplishments.

Special 'thank-you' to the UVA Orange Dialysis Center for taking extraordinary care of her for the past 4 ½ years.
