Norman Shifflett - Class Of 1956

Norman J. Shifflett, age 77, of Baxter, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at St. Joseph's Medical Center-Essentia Health in Brainerd, Minn.

Norm was born in Charlottesville, Va. on January 4, 1938, to Ellis and Annie (Morris) Shifflett. He married Betty Tank, and together they have three children.

Norm worked for St. Joseph's Medical Center-Essentia Health and Lakewood Health Systems- Staples Hospital in office management. He also worked for Slumberland. Norm was in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the U.S. Army National Guard.

He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He had a green thumb and loved southern food, especially sausage gravy and biscuits. Norm always dreamed of a Cadillac.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Betty; children, Gregory (Linda) of Victoria, Minn., Steven of Steven's Point, Wisc., Lisa (Tom) Wenner of Becker, Minn.; siblings, Stella Creel of Culpeper, Va., Mary Chestnut of Crozet, Va., Mavis (Bill) Blankenship of Whitehall, Va., Irene Collier of Free Union, Va., Joyce Shifflett of Crozet, Va., and Roy Shifflett, Charlottesville, Va.; and grandchildren, Lauren, Sam, Dylan, Zach, Ellie and Maya.Norm is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, James, Mervin and Edward.

The funeral service for Norm was held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Halvorson Johnson Funeral Home-BRAINERD CHAPEL, and one hour prior to the service, Thursday at the church.Burial was held at Trinity Cemetery in Sauk Rapids, Minn., following the service.
