Suzanne Cale Wood 

Suzanne was an excellent student and participated in many activities at Albemarle High School.  She was in the Student Council, Class Officer, Cheerleader, Co-Captain for Basketball, and Chorus. Suzanne was honored as Female Athlete of the Year and Valedictorian of her 1956 Class. Never one to talk about her accomplishments, she was an example for others to follow. Since she was the daughter of Albemarle County Superintendent of Public Schools Paul Cale and mother Hallie Cale, Suzanne had a difficult path and was expected to excel in everything she did. She passed the test with flying colors. Suzanne continued her education and academic success at James Madison University where she was President of the Student Government Association, member of the Tri Sigma Sorority and received a BS degree in education in 1960.

Suzanne was a dedicated teacher for 48 years. She taught Albebra and Math at Roosevelt High School in Newark, Ohio 1960-1962, while caring for newborn daughter, Suzanne, was substitute teacher at Licking County, Ohio 1963-1964, taught sixth grade at Johnny Carson Elementary School 1964-1965, taught sixth grade at North Frederick Elementary School in Frederick, Maryland 1965-1966. Son Charles Michael arrived and Suzanne taught preschool at a private Montessori school for 4 & 5 year olds 1967-1968, taught fifth and sixth grades at South Frederick Elementary School 1968-1971, taught fifth and sixth grades at Green Valley Elementary School 1971-1977, Taught fifth grade and was team leader at Eastbrook Elementary 1977-2008. Suzanne retired after 48 years of teaching in June 2008.  Suzanne wanted to teach children and her record shows, that is what she did.

Suzanne was honored as Teacher if the Year in 1999. For most of her professional career, Suzanne was a member of the National Education Association, local Education Associations and the Parent Teacher Association.
