Richard Farinholt - Class Of 1957

FARINHOLT, Richard Louis "Dick", 77, of Richmond, passed away on March 3, 2016.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edvin Vernon Farinholt Jr. and Catherine McSweeney Farinholt; his brothers, Joseph John Farinholt and Robert Joseph Farinholt.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Lee Woodson Farinholt; his brothers, Edvin Vernon Farinholt III and James Sweeney Farinholt; his children, daughter, Slater Dunbar (Craig), sons, Richard L. Farinholt II (Stacey) Timothy A. Farinholt (Jennifer), Jonathon M. Farinholt, Robert J. Farinholt (Christine) and Lee M. Farinholt. Dick is survived by eight grandchildren, Page, Marlee, Holt, Tucker, Kendall, Austin, Lenny and Gigi.

Dick was a 1962 graduate of the McIntire School of Commerce at University of Virginia. Dick began his long career in the computer industry at State Farm Insurance Company in Charlottesville in 1957 and moved to IBM Corporation as a Systems Engineer and Salesman from 1962 to 1980. Dick retired from IBM and started Computer Services, Inc., a private consulting firm to Virginia Power and Virginia Natural Gas, until 1989. During his career Dick was the CIO of Blue Cross, Owens & Minor and Best Products. He retired from the computer industry in 1990.Throughout his career, Dick was a conscientious mentor to many young professionals. He thoroughly enjoyed supporting them in their careers and development.

Dick also enjoyed spending time at his son's boat yards and marina, lending a large helping of advice to anyone in range. Away from work Dick had several passions, many of which were centered on supporting his large family. He was a vocal cheerleader at his children's sporting events and enjoyed spending time with Nancy and the kids on many eventful sailing trips. He was able to participate in recent years on sailing trips with his brothers, and cherished the experience. He rekindled his love for golf after the age of 50, and grinded his way through many rounds with friends and family.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7, at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 300 N. Sheppard St., Richmond, Va. 23221. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Benedictine College Preparatory, 12829 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23238.
