Terry Lee Gentry - Class Of 1982

Gentry, Terry LeeTerry Lee Gentry, 51, of Charlottesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 5, 1963, he was the youngest son of the late Rives Coleman Gentry and Mary Louise Pace Gentry. A brother, Gregory Paul Gentry, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by wife, Lisa Miller Gentry; daughter, Ashton Gentry of Charlottesville; their son, Rives Gentry and wife, Katie of Afton; his brothers, Cecil and wife Barbara, Wayne and wife Cindy, Glen and wife Darlene; in-laws, Robert and Judy Miller; brother-in-law, Rob Miller and wife Kelly; sisters-in-law, Sara Roberts and husband Larry, and Missy Berry and husband Mark; 19 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews and a great, great niece.

Terry began working for his Dad in the family business, Rives C. Gentry and Sons, Inc., when he was 12 years old. After graduating high school he started working full time, later taking over for his father.

Terry loved to sing. He blessed many through his God given gift to share Christ's love through music. He was involved in Together Ministries, Chancel Choir at First Baptist Church, Park Street, as well as singing for the glory of the Lord, and giving his testimony, wherever he was led to go.

Terry was an avid sports fan. He loved the Washington Redskins, the Baltimore Orioles and his Hoos. He was easily recognized driving around town in his beloved red truck, which was often decked out in his favorite teams' colors (flags flying and magnets galore!)

Terry loved to make us laugh, even if at his own expense. He was accepting of everyone, but especially loved children. Always a big kid at heart, he easily related to the children he taught. He invested much of his time in children's ministry. "Mr. T," as he was called, taught children's Sunday School and ministered as a Game Director in the AWANA Clubs.Above all, Terry loved his family. His wife and children were his passion. Terry put them first with his investment of time, affection and support. He was happiest on the tennis courts or wrestling on the floor with his kids, or just spending couple's time walking, driving, and sharing. As long as the family was together Terry was happy. He was loved by all.

A service to celebrate Terry's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Park Street with Pastor Don Hicks, Pastor Joel Jenkins and Pastor Ray Strickland officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the church.
