Charles Luther Fry III - Class Of 1977

Charles Luther Fry III, 50, beloved son of Terry Fry of Charlottesville and Charles Luther Fry Jr. and stepson of Patricia Bergen Fry of Scottsville, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009, at University of Virginia Medical Center. His death was unexpected and heart related.

Luther was born in Rochester, New York, and his family moved to Charlottesville in 1960. He graduated from Belfield School in 1973, Albemarle High School in 1977 and Mary Washington College in 1982.

He had a wide-ranging employment career doing everything from teaching math, mortgage banking and chess tutoring. He last worked at Domino's. He excelled at chess and was becoming very proficient at Duplicate Bridge.

Luther is survived by his brother, Gordon Hasbrouck Fry of Charlottesville; stepsister, Kathleen Armstrong McCleskey of Scottsville; and stepbrother Charles Warfield Armstrong of Charlottesville; two nephews, Gordon Luther Fry and Edward Bergen Fry of Charlottesville. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service for Luther will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009, at The Church of Our Savior on Rio Road. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Region Ten Community Services Board, 502 Old Lynchburg Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. Friends may sign the guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.
