Caroline G Devan (Morris) - Class Of 1977

Caroline Devan Morris, 52, of Pinehurst, North Carolina, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at First Health of the Carolinas Moore Regional Hospital with her family by her side.

She and her beloved husband, Charles Steven Morris, had settled in Pinehurst, North Carolina, in 2008, after three years in Williamsburg, Virginia, and twenty-three years in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was born on March 2, 1959, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Margaret Peggy Devan and the late Charles Brown, and after her father's passing Caroline was raised by her adoptive father, William Devan. She was a 1977 graduate of Albemarle High School, a 1981 graduate of Radford University, and devoted her life to serving and teaching others.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Zachary Morris, Taylor Morris, and Haley Morris; her soon to be daughter-in-law, Laura Cook; her mother, Peggy Devan; her sisters, Cathryn Conroy, Beth Marrs, and Margaret Marsh; her brother, William Devan; her mother-in-law, Peggy Morris; nine nieces and nephews; and lastly, devoted English Bulldog, Abby. Caroline was a devoted and loving mother of three. In addition to her favorite job as a mom, she was a special education teacher at the Central Virginia Training Center for 7 years and a pre-school teacher at Peakland United Methodist School for 10 years. Outside of her work, she often volunteered her time at The Daily Bread. After leaving Lynchburg in 2005, Caroline served as a substitute teacher for various preschools in Williamsburg and Pinehurst. In her free time, Caroline was an avid exerciser and frequent participant in Body Pump. She was a member of Pinehurst Country Club, the Pinehurst Forum, and the Pinehurst Lake Association. She was also an active member of local Book, Garden, and Wine and Cuisine clubs in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, with the Reverend William Watson and the Reverend Wayne Lanham officiating. The family will receive friends and celebrate her life with a reception at Boonsboro Country Club immediately following the service.
