Brenda Shiflett Bevilacqua, 71, passed away on Thursday morning, May 24, 2018, from complications of COPD.

Brenda was born on April 29, 1947, in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Cecil Earl Shiflett and Lorraine Clements Shiflett.

Brenda retired from the Albemarle County Transportation Department as a much loved school bus driver in 2008 after 39 years. In the past, she attended First Christian Church. She had a deep love for all animals, especially her cat, "Dash."

She is survived by her husband, George Swingler; and her sister, Judith Coleman, both of Charlottesville. Also left to cherish Brenda's memory are her two children, Lori Richardson and her husband, Albert, of Palmyra, and David Bevilacqua of Hutchinson, Kans.; her nephew, Jeff Coleman and his wife, Sarah; her grandchildren, Hunter Pugh, David Bevilacqua II, Caitlyn Madl and her husband, Elliott, Meghan Bevilacqua, and Lindsay Osika and her husband, David; and her great-grandchildren, Ariana Bevilacqua and Christian Osika.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the University of Virginia Medical Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion during Brenda's final days. They would also like to thank UVA's Transplant Team for giving her hope and encouragement.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, in the Chapel at Hill & Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Her family will receive friends at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
