Eugene "Gene" Roosevelt Burgess, Jr., 70, of Palmyra, went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 8, 2015, in Charlottesville.

Born on November 18, 1944, in North Garden, he was the son of the late Eugene Roosevelt Burgess and Mary Dudley Burgess.

He is survived by his four sons and their families: Gary Burgess and his wife Natasha and their two children Haleigh and Tyler of Ruckersville; Thomas Burgess and his friend Lisa Hodges of Troy, his children Thomas and Raven of King & Queen; Andy Burgess of Stanardsville; and Kevin Burgess and his girlfriend Jennifer Hofecker and their son Dylan, of Long Island NY. He is also survived by his sister, Evelynn Shiflett of Morganton, NC. Gene also had three special friends that were like sisters to him—Rhonda Wilson, Carolyn Shifflett, and Joyce Broderick.

Gene started his career in the tire industry in 1975 until he could find a better job, but he never looked for one. He spent over 20 years as Manager and Commercial Salesman with his last job at GCR Tire. Through his job he met a lot of people, most of them becoming his friends. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Some of his best friends were his customers.

A funeral service will be conducted at Solid Rock Full Gospel in Barboursville, VA at 3:30pm on Tuesday, May 12, with a burial to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville on Monday, May 11.
