He was the son of the late E. Daniel Haley Sr. and Ruby P. (Hackett) Haley Haislip. Dan was raised by his late uncle and aunt, Willie L. and Elizabeth (Hackett) Haley.
Dan graduated from Albemarle County High School in June, 1961. He held several jobs before becoming an electronic technician at the University of Virginia Medical Center in 1972. After taking the early retirement plan offered by the state in the spring of 1995, Dan pursued his hobbies of fishing, golf, biking, walking, and photography.
He is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Shirley L. Haley; and his four children and their families, Michael R. Haley and his wife, Fonda, David W.
