Capt. Shirley Newton Sprouse - Class Of 1954

 

 

Captain Shirley Newton Sprouse, U.S. Army Retired, 70, of 3231 Center Road, died Monday, November 27, 2006, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia, South Carolina. 

A native of Batesville, Virginia, Mr. Sprouse was a son of the late Newton Early Sprouse and Mazie Gibson Sprouse.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2006, at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Larry Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.

He was retired from the U. S. Military and was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a graduate of Albemarle High School, Charlottesville, Virginia, and attended college in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He held an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.

Surviving are his wife, Erika P. Sprouse; three sons, Robert Sprouse of Chester, South Carolina, Michael R. Sprouse of Cooleemee, North Carolina and Thomas W. Sprouse of Advance, North Carolina; four grandchildren; one brother, Sandy Douglas Sprouse of Charlottesville, Virginia; one sister, Mary S. Smith of Troy, Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Lee Sprouse.

The family will receive friends after the service at the home.
