Janet Blume Shiflett

It takes a collective “village” of dedicated, qualified educators, like Janet Shiflett, to help produce the many outstanding community and professional leaders of which our Albemarle High School academic village can be eminently proud. (And of course, gratitude to the support and guidance of our village leader, Benjamin F. Hurt.)

Janet has been a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International since 1998, serving as Vice President 2008-2010, President 2010-2014. She has contributed to scholarship and mentoring assistance availability for both Albemarle High students and teachers. She has worked with other French teachers as Foreign Language Advocate and worked on committees to develop year-end proficiency exams.

Besides being a effective language teacher, Janet has affected individuals and society in many important ways: Bible Study Teacher at Belmont Baptist Church, (Church Secretary, member of the benevolence Team, Homebound Ministry Team), and 4-H leader. A prize-winning equestrian herself, Janet is co-administrator and coach for Horse Judging, Hippology and Horse Bowl contests as well as organizer of the Hoof “n” Woof Horse Show.

Janet has been recognized, (1988-2000) Proficient Status on teacher Career Incentive Plan (1997) Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship in Vichy, France, awards by the Center for the Liberal Arts, University of Virginia(1990-1992) Selected by former students to Who’s Who in American Teachers.

Janet Blume Shiflett was nominated by former AHS French Teacher Mary Antil Lederman.
