Nelson Moore

Nelson Larry Moore, 80, of Charlottesville and Ruckersville, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2021.

Nelson was born on October 15, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Irvin Lenna and Clara May Moore. In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by many older siblings from his parent's previous marriages. His brother, Gordon Wayne "Butch" Moore passed away in 2017 and was a loss he felt deeply.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Kirbie Dempsey Moore; former wife and mother of his children, Jane C. Franklin; daughter, Lesley Moore Forloines (Glenn); son, Nelson Larry Moore II; stepdaughters, Jenn Dempsey Kozak (Jason) and Erica Dempsey; stepsons, Jeff Dempsey and Jay Dempsey; grandchildren, Tyler, Megan, Wilson and Emmy Forloines, Cora Dempsey, Colleen and Jordan Crawford, and Jacklin and Jake Kozak; sisters-in-law, Avis Moore (Don) and Judy Moore(Butch); and many loved nieces and nephews.

Nelson was a gifted educator, coach and administrator. He worked for the following school systems from 1968-1991, Fayette County West Virginia and Albemarle, Northumberland, Louisa and Powhatan Counties in Virginia. After retiring from education Nelson enjoyed working at Kroger, Boars Head Sports Club and Farmington Country Club.

A celebration of Nelson's life will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, 10 a.m. at Forest Lakes North Clubhouse, 1824 Pavilion Cir, Charlottesville, VA 22911. His ashes will be scattered at a later date honoring his wishes.
