Margaret Burruss

Margaret Burruss, 94, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully at a local hospital on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Born in Charlottesville, to the late Clarence and Willie Whitted, she was married to the late Thomas Marshall Burruss of Charlottesville for over 60 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Kay Burruss Jedlica; and her two sons, Grant Bates and wife, Nancy, and Justin Bates, and partner, Melanie, of Charlottesville: her son, Marshall Burruss and wife, Kelly and their children, Ben Burruss and wife, Debbie, and Casey Burruss Molher and husband, Kyle. Margaret's sister, Patricia Blackwell resides in Richmond, Va.

Margaret was a beloved teacher at Albemarle High School for 30 years and a devout member of University Baptist Church for over 55 years. She graduated from Mary Washington University and completed graduate coursework in computer science.

She made this world a better, loving place in both small and big ways. May her kindness, compassion, and generosity to all remain with us as we mourn her passing and celebrate her life. In her humble way she will always shine as a bright light to all she touched in her special way.

A private family graveside funeral was held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Free Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Will Brown from University Baptist Church delivering the service.

The family extends sincerest gratitude to Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet for taking care of all funeral arrangements and preparation.
