In Memory

Lewis Deforrest Pound - Class Of 1968

Lewis Deforrest Pound, 75, gained his angel wings on April 4th at his home on his cherished family land in southern Albemarle County that he fondly called Maddex Mountain. Born July 14th, 1950, in Charlottesville, Virginia, he was the son of Earl Kitchner Pound and Eleanor Maddex Pound. He is preceded in death by his parents and a very special uncle Raymond.

After graduating from Albemarle High School Lewis worked at the UVA Print Shop for 30 years. After retiring from UVA, he enjoyed driving a school bus for Albemarle County where he was adored by the kids. Later he served as a patient companion at the UVA Medical Center helping to calm agitated and confused patients. He was an ardent supporter of the 2nd amendment and was an expert in all aspects of firearms. He was a fervent reader and self-learner with a passion for military history. He was so proud of his father and uncle who served in World War II, his father as a Marine in the Pacific Campaign and his uncle with the Army in North Africa and Italy. Lewis was a life member of the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad where he faithfully served the community and established long-term friendships. He loved his time as a volunteer and relished the memories. His true dedication was exemplified when he continued to volunteer after the malfunction of a piece of extrication equipment resulted in the loss of his ring finger.

In his younger days he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being a part owner of a stock car. Before his decline in health, he enjoyed gardening, target practice, gun stock refinishing, and riding on his John Deere tractor.

Lewis is survived by his wife Ann Turman, son Michael (Dawne) of Richmond, grandchildren Eleanor and Lucas and their mother Kati Daniels also of Richmond, and brother-in-law Bill Turman of Oviedo, Florida.

Special thanks to the Clark family (Steve, David, Lester, Ann) and Brad Wood whose help, love and support have been amazing over the years. Also, special thanks to his old rescue squad buddy Steve Key for being there for him. Lewis considered him to be a brother.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday April 12th at 2 PM at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church located at 960 Monacan Trail (29S).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad or Tunnel for Towers.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
