HALL OF FAME
Leroy Smith, Jr.
Mr. LeRoy Smith taught at Albemarle High School for 33 years from its opening in 1953 until 1986. He introduced trades to countless students during an era before local trade schools and community colleges was available to local students. Mr. Smith taught Auto Mechanics, Drafting, Electricity, Engineering Drawing, Industrial Arts, Mechanical Drawing, Metalwork, Modern Industry, Technical Drawing, Woods Technology and Woodworking. He managed his classes with firmness, fairness and humor and was able to engage the least interested student. He was an active member of the local rescue squad, opened and managed the local business “Dad’s Dive Den” in support of those interested in scuba diving. He promoted Industrial Arts through AIASA (American Industrial Arts Student Association). LeRoy Smith passed away in 2011.
