James Dennis Critzer - Class Of 1960

James Dennis "Jim" Critzer, 79, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at his home. He was born in Crozet on June 14, 1941, son of the late Edward Lee Critzer and Violet Inez Critzer.

Jim graduated from Albemarle High School and attended Piedmont Community College for two years. He was a member of Waynesboro Church of Christ and retired from DuPont in 1994 with over 29 years of service. Following his retirement he was an advocate, security officer at Disney World, Boars Head Inn and Stony Creek Campground.

He was veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Serving from 1961 to 1965 and where he attained the rank of Sgt./E5. He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1965, and then served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1965 until 1967. A Viet Nam Veteran, he was the recipient of the Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Marksmanship Badge. His military career field included that of Rifleman, Sea duty AMPH and the training command.

Jim cherished his family and enjoyed Tennis, UVA sports, softball, and a cold beer while watching the sunset. He was an avid collector of coins, books, baseball cards and anything and everything.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Donna Danielson Critzer and his granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Critzer.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carole Elizabeth Marion Critzer, they were married April 6, 1963; his son, James M. Critzer of Stuarts Draft; his daughter, Michelle Elizabeth Critzer and husband, James Edward Sheaves of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Aaron Tyler Fitzgerald, who is son of Michelle and stepson of James, Mary Elizabeth Critzer, who is the daughter of Matt, Elizabeth Nicole Critzer, who is the daughter of Michelle and James, and Madison Lynn Critzer, who is the daughter of Matt; one great-grandson, Jensen Wade Fitzgerald, who is the son of Aaron; one sister, Nancy Laramy of Crozet; one brother, Donald Lee Critzer and wife, Linda of Crozet. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephew and loyal friends.

A memorial service, with Military Honors, will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Waynesboro Church of Christ with Mr. Allen Close officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the Memorial Service. Covid 19 regulations will be followed.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Waynesboro Church of Christ, 227 Bookerdale Rd., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
