Warren Brubaker

Warren Page Brubaker died on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.  He was born on July 30, 1937, in Luray, Va., a son of the late Charlie Peter and Sarah Elizabeth Kauffman Brubaker.

He graduated from Luray High School in 1955.  In 1959, he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Education with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, having majored in education and mathematics and minored in physics and philosophy.  In 1963, he graduated from The College of the Bible (now Lexington Theological Seminary) with a Bachelor of Divinity degree.

On June 6, 1959, he married Virginia Belle Tharpe of Shenandoah, Va., who survives him.  They were parents of a son, David Warren, and a daughter, Laura Virginia, who also survive; along with David's wife Heather and their children Gregory, Daniel, Matthew and Kate, and Laura's partner Kathryn Stacy-Brubaker and her children Roy Edward Wilson and Lauren Kelly.

Mr. Brubaker taught mathematics in public schools of Virginia for a total of 13 years - in Albemarle, Lunenburg and Frederick counties; and served on the Shenandoah County School Board for four and one-half years, the last two and a half as chairman.

He was licensed as a student/lay minister with the Virginia Christian Missionary Society in 1958.  On June 16, 1963, he was ordained for Christian Ministry at Luray Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  He served congregations in Kentucky and Virginia for a total of 43 years, during which time he also served in many different ways with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Virginia.  After retirement on August 31, 2002, he served more than three years in interim ministries.

He lived as a survivor and did battle with prostate cancer after his diagnosis in September 1996.

In addition to family members listed above, he is also survived by two sisters, Marie Kemp and husband Mark, and Evelyn Glasscock of Luray; three brothers, John and Robert of Luray, and Richard of Barboursville, Va.; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Sedwick Brubaker and Gail Hammonds Brubaker. Two brothers, Edward and Charles, were previously deceased.  Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at the Luray Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by the Rev. Sara Galindo.
