Carter Hunter Conrad, Sr. of Scottsville, Virginia, son of Curtis Carter Conrad, Jr. and Mary Fleshman Conrad, died on Monday, January 25, 2021, after a long battle with lymphoma. He was 68 years old.

Carter is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Anne Dandridge Conrad; his two sons, Carter Hunter Conrad, Jr. and Haden Dandridge Conrad; his devoted and loving sister, Mary Curtis Ott; his daughter-in-law, Rachael LaFreniere Conrad; his two grandchildren, Jayden Hodge and Gavin Conrad ;as well as his brother by another mother, Harold Ownby. He will be missed by anyone and everyone who had the extreme good fortune to know him in this life.

Carter attended Albemarle County Schools, being one of the last students of the old Scottsville High School, before moving on to Virginia Tech where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1974.  He worked at Sperry Marine Systems, now Northrup Grumman, from 1974 until his retirement in 2011.

Like his father before him, Carter had a lifelong love affair with music . He learned piano lessons from his grandmother, Marguerite Haden Conrad and later on Carter played clarinet in the Albemarle High School concert band. In college he took up the bass as a member of the Spruce Run String Band. He played guitar and bass with several bands over the years. Some of the greatest joy in his life came from music, especially playing guitar for the Turner Combo at Fluvanna Lake from 1968 to 1972 and bass guitar for the Full Moon Saloon Band/Midnight Buzz and the Boomerangs.

Due to considerations of the pandemic, the family will be having a private service. In lieu of flowers, share your condolences with a donation to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA and/or Hospice of the Piedmont.
