Hope Woods Gleason - Class Of 1966

Hope Woods Gleason, III, 69, of London, UK, and Charlottesville, Va., passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, after a brief illness at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Woods was a Charlottesville native, born June 13, 1948, at UVA Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hope Woods "Bootie" Gleason and Dorothy Williams "Ditty" Gleason.

Woods led a successful academic life, beginning with graduating from Albemarle High School at the top of his class. This was followed by an undergraduate degree at Davidson College, a law degree from the University of Virginia Law School and an MBA from the University of California Los Angles. In addition to these milestones, special mention is made of his attending Paris Sorbonne University and even appearing as a contestant on the game show Jeopardy in the early 1980's.

Woods work life was beginning to evolve during his academic days, including teaching police officers in Atlanta, working for a senator on Capitol Hill, and even becoming a member of the U.S. Army, eventually achieving the rank of Captain. His life's work began in earnest after graduating from UCLA when he joined with an international consulting firm specializing in the film industry. This job led to his eventual geographic posting from being Los Angeles based to being promoted to handling the European division from a London based office where he stayed for the remainder of his working career until retiring.

Woods is survived by his brothers, Christopher B. Gleason of Charlottesville, Va., and Gregory W. Gleason and his wife, Jerrilynn C. Gleason, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a nephew, Shawn G. Gleason of Denver, Colo.; and a niece, Lauren E. Gleason of Richmond, Va. The extended family of an aunt and first cousins and their families that have always been an integral part of our close knit family are thanked for their special love and friendship over his lifetime.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Woods will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Jefferson St., Charlottesville, Va.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, P.O. Box 7047, Charlottesville, VA 22906.
