Gary Wayne Morris - Class Of 1973

Gary Wayne Morris, 62, of Charlottesville, departed this life on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Born on June 29, 1952, he is the son of Ollie and Avis Morris, of Charlottesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Trudy, and his grandparents, William and Bessie Shifflett and George and Millie Morris.

Gary attended the school for the deaf and blind and then received his GED. He retired from UVA as a storeroom foreman, a job he loved very much. Gary would listen to his Bible tapes all day. He was a big UVA fan and always cheered for his Cavaliers. Drew Diener, UVA assistant coach, was like a brother to Gary.

Deborah was like a sister to him and he was very thankful that she took such good care of his father. Marcie Johnson was a special person to him also. She ran errands for Gary and helped him in any way possible, as he was blind and unable to walk. Gary also had a special four-legged friend "Cricket".The family would like to thank Jacob and Kathy Walker for all they have done to help them over the years and through this difficult time. They would also like to thank Riverdale Nursing Facility and Martha Jefferson Hospital for the care they gave Gary over the past several months. Gary will be missed by all his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Free Union Church of the Brethren, 4152 Free Union Road, Charlottesville. Friends and family are invited to remain after the service to enjoy food provided by the church.
