Palmer Lee McCauley - Class Of 1963

Palmer Lee McCauley, 77, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, February 24, 2023, after a short illness.

Lee was born on September 7, 1945, in Charlottesville, Virginia. After graduating from Albemarle High School in 1963, he studied at the University of Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education with a minor in Government in 1969. In the fall of 1964, Lee started dating Barbara Davis and they were married in 1969. Lee always joked that he graduated from the University of Virginia, married Barbara and was drafted all within 60 days of each other. After being drafted into the United States Army, Lee completed his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and then was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Lee served as a missile instructor for the Nike Hercules Missile System for three years. Lee and Barbara returned to Charlottesville in 1972 where Lee began working for State Farm Insurance Companies. Lee enjoyed a long thirty plus year career as an Auto Underwriter.

Lee and Barbara had two children, Robin McCauley Jones (Jonathan) and Jamie McCauley Farish (Jason); his grandchildren, Anna Katherine Jones, Jack Palmer Jones, Tyler Lucas Farish, and Brandon Noah Farish. Lee is survived by his brother, Melvin McCauley (Linda); sister-in-laws, Patricia Craft (Courtney), Gail

Garnett, Carolyn Fuss (Chris); and brother-in-law, John Davis. Lee will also be missed by many additional family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Mittie McCauley and his infant daughter, Jennifer Grace McCauley.

Lee was a hard-working and loyal husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Lee enjoyed farming and making hay each summer, hunting, the outdoors, and going to the beach each summer with his family. Lee was a lifetime member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center and Hospice of the Piedmont for their commitment to Lee's care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Olivet

Presbyterian Church on Garth Road with interment to follow. Pastor Seth Lovell will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lee's name to Olivet Presbyterian Church, 2575 Garth Road, Charlottesville, Virginia.
