Robert Haden Harris - Class Of 1960

Robert Haden Harris Jr., 78, passed away on January 1, 2021, from complications related to COVID-19.

A lifelong resident of Charlottesville, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1942. Bob was the son of the late Robert Harris Sr. and Gertrude Harris. He was the brother of Betty Barker and Elna Yongue. He was the father of Julie Gibson and Robert Harris III. He was the grandfather of six grandchildren, Jackson, Sean, Emma, and Brayden Harris, and Haden and Cali Gibson.

Bob returned to Charlottesville after attending college in Texas to work with Robert Sr. in the family plastering business, where he worked until he retired. Once the owner of a beautiful home in North Garden, in recent years Bob downsized to living in an apartment at The Independence Retirement Community, then more recently, at The Blake at Charlottesville Assisted Living Community.

Anyone who knew Bob knows he was the most thoughtful, kind man there was. Always easygoing, with a sharp sense of humor, Bob was a pleasure to be around. He enjoyed the simple things in life, such as reading and spending time with his family. Bob was a devout Christian and a member of University Baptist Church.

While the light he brought to those he knew is no longer shining, it remains within their hearts. There are many wonderful memories that will live beyond Bob's life, and he will be missed dearly by all.

Bob's family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff in the ICU at Martha Jefferson Hospital where Bob spent the last two weeks of his life. They worked tirelessly around the clock to ensure Bob received the care he needed. Their compassion helped not only Bob in his final days, but also his family in the most difficult of times. We would like to send a special thank you to Kate, Ally, and Norm for their unbridled support and guidance.

Details of a public gathering to celebrate Bob's life will follow when it is safe to congregate. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to University Baptist Church at 1223 W. Main St., Charlottesville, VA 22903.
