Joyce Ann Pugh (Mccoy) - Class Of 1954

Ms. Joyce Anne Pugh McCoy, originally from Cismont, Virginia, later Charlottesville, passed away peacefully at her home in San Diego, California, after a brief illness.

Joyce Anne was the daughter of JG Pugh, and Viola Pugh, of Cismont, Charlottesville and later, Richmond.

Joyce Anne attended McIntyre and Albemarle High School, graduating Albemarle in 1954 and went on to Mary Washington College to major in English. After graduating from Mary Washington College in 1958, Joyce Anne accepted a teaching position with San Diego Unified School district and relocated to Southern California. It was there she met her husband, Dale K McCoy, who preceded her in death in 1971, leaving her widowed with two young children.Faced with unexpected choices, Joyce Anne decided to return to teaching, a career she'd left in order to meet the societal demands of child-rearing, in the late 1960's.

In addition to returning to the classroom, she enrolled at University of San Diego Law School, attending class at night, to graduate in 1977 cum laude, passed the California Bar exam and was admitted to practice in 1978. She accepted a position with Seltzer Kaplan McMahon, Vitek and became a partner with the firm in 1985, where she remained until her retirement, August 2015.

Joyce Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Dale K McCoy; and parents, Joseph Graves Pugh and Viola Edna Pugh.

She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Pugh (Jewel) of Mississippi; and a sister, Lyndall of Texas and her children, Sean McCoy (Yuriko) and Leslie Drew (Chris) of California. Her grandsons, Joshua and Zachary Drew were the joy of her life, and she was thrilled with the affection and love they heaped on her.

There will be a memorial service at the church she was a member of so many years ago, Grace Episcopal Church in Cismont/Keswick on Saturday, November 12, 2016,at 11:00 AM.
