In Memory

Wendy Cohen - Class Of 1970

Wendy S. Cohen, 56, long-time director and owner of Camp Walden in Denmark, Maine, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at her home in Charlottesville.

Wendy graduated from Albemarle High School and matriculated from American University with a BS in Health and Physical Education. Wendy began her professional career as a teacher in Charlottesville Public Schools. Wendy left her teaching career in order to establish herself in the family business. Like her mother, she was completely devoted to Camp Walden. Wendy's greatest joy was in being able to provide a safe and nurturing environment for each and every Walden Camper. She was instrumental in maintaining the traditions, values and growth of Walden. The Walden community, her personal friends and the Herz and Cohen families have experienced a tremendous loss.

Another of Wendy's passions was sports. She was a huge fan and a continued supporter of the University of Virginia Athletics.

Wendy was preceded in death by her father, Edwin S. Cohen; and her mother, Helen Herz Cohen.

She is survived by two brothers, Edwin C. Cohen and family of New York City, New York, and Roger Cohen and family of Denmark, Maine.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the University of Virginia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to THE MAIN IDEA, c/o Camp Walden, PO Box 4465, Charlottesville, VA 22905
