James Lewis Bufford, 46, of Green Creek Rd., Schuyler, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Born June 10, 1958, in Hagerstown, Md., he was a son of the late Lloyd Douglas Bufford and Rose Bryant Bufford. He was a former heavy equipment operator with Diggs Construction Co. of Charlottesville and a United States Army veteran.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne Marie Bufford of Shipman; two sisters, Mary W. Smith of Schuyler and Barbara Clayton of N.C.; two brothers , Lloyd Douglas Bufford Jr. of Richmond and Charles Bufford of N.C.; four nieces, Melissa and Robin Bufford, both of Schuyler, Angela Bufford of Buckingham and Jennifer Bufford of Howardsville; two nephews, Steve Smith of Schuyler and Kevin Smith of N.C.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m today, May 20, 2005, at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, with the Rev. John P. Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Bufford/Bryant cemetery near Schuyler.
