Photo Phillip Benjamin Slagle, entered Eternal life on December 26th, 2007, at home surrounded by his family and friends.

Phil came into this world one week early on Christmas Day 1987. He died too early for a young man with such enthusiasm for life, one day after his 20th birthday. He defied his cancer as long as he could and lived a very, very wonderful life after giving up chemotherapy in August.

Phil graduated from Albemarle High School in 2006 and was a green belt in Myo Sim Kendo. The achievement of which he was most proud was attaining Eagle Scout in the Spring of 2007. It was a great blessing that Phil was well enough to celebrate this achievement with family and friends just 2 weeks ago.

He is survived by his parents, Mary Beth and Tim; his loving brothers, Zak and Gabe; his paternal grandmother, Ruby Inez Slagle; and his maternal grandfather, Edward Thomas Duffy. Also surviving Phil, his girlfriend, Vanessa Miller; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, too numerous to list.

Friends and family may visit 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007, in the Parish Activities Center (stone chapel) of Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville.

Visitation will resume 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2007, in the church sanctuary. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 PM that evening.

Christian Burial rites will take place 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2007, in Monticello Memorial Gardens.

A fund was established several months ago to allow Phil, an outdoor enthusiast, to purchase an improved prosthesis to allow him to canoe and backpack. At Phil's request those funds will be used to improve the canoeing equipment at Boy Scout Camp Shenandoah in Swoope, Virginia. Phil asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to this fund for the same purpose:
