George Tompkins Carr II - Class Of 1970

George Tompkins Carr II died on Saturday, June 14, 2014, after a long illness. He was 61.

Born in Charlottesville, he attended Meriwether Lewis School and Albemarle High School. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dartmouth College, with a degree in Latin American Studies. He went on to receive a Masters in Architecture from the University of Virginia, where he was awarded the AIA Medal for Excellence in the Study of Architecture.

George and his wife, Randi, moved to Philadelphia in 1979 where he began working for Dagit-Saylor Architects (now Saylor/Gregg Architects). After leaving Dagit-Saylor, he joined the firm of Jacobs/Wyper where he continued until 1999. An avid golfer, George was a member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by two daughters, Jessie Carr and Caroline Stokes; son-in-law, Hunter Stokes; and three granddaughters, McLean, Yatie and Agnes Stokes; as well as his parents, David and Martha Carr; five siblings; nine sisters and brothers-in-law; and 16 nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of George's Life will be held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, Wissahickon Golf Course Clubhouse on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 9:30 a.m.
