George Marshall Fariss, 48, of Palmyra, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born on June 22, 1961, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Sterling Fariss and Alice Johnson Fariss. Also predeceasing him was a brother, James Lee Fariss.
George was a devoted, dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid Redskins fan and he also loved to fish and hunt. He served in the United States Navy from 1979 until 1986.
Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Charlotte; his son, Bobby Fariss; three daughters, Amanda Fariss and her companion, Michael, Nicole Maupin and her husband, Kenny, and Barbara Henderson and her husband, Matt; three brothers, Ralph "Eddie" Fariss, John Fariss and William Fariss; and grandchildren Autumn, Mikey, Morgan, Makenzie, Chelsea, Conner, Makayla and baby Henderson.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Warren Tillman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the funeral home.
