Off to the military right out of high school, serving in then West Germany (of course, whatwith the tearing down of the Berlin Wall in 1989, signaling Germany's reunification, there is no longer an East or West Germany today). Returned home, worked the family farm while attending Piedmont Virginia Community College, studying "Standards & Ethics" under Lt. Eugene Rhodenizer (CPD). Enrolled at Virginia State University (Political Science/Pre-Law). After meeting my future wife at a Summer Camp in Maine, my path steered away from a law career. Found myself serving at-risk populations instead: initially, as a Youth Counselor (1988-2000), and then as a Social-Worker (2000-2008). After a few years coaching college basketball, am presently working in the insurance industry, honing the lessons learned from that "Standards & Ethics" training from so long ago.
With so many good ones to choose from, where do I start? Whether it was an enthusiastic Pep Rally in the old auditorium, or that memorable victory over our crosstown rivals in the waning seconds against the then Lane Black Knights on Leon Hawkin's successful free throws, not to mention David Corrigan's tenacious play that night up and down the University Hall basketball court, those were some memorable days....
