Thomas "Tommy" Lee McDaniel - Class Of 1977

Thomas Lee McDaniel Jr., 55, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, October 11, 2014, at his residence with his family by his side.

Born in Charlottesville, on October 28, 1958, he was the son of the late Thomas Lee and Louise Pettigo McDaniel.

Thomas was a graduate of Albemarle High School.  He worked for Pete's Plumbing and Heating in Charlottesville for 16 years as a certified plumber.  Thomas loved the outdoors. During hunting season if he wasn't at home you knew he was in the woods looking and waiting for the next big game, fishing in the pond, or four-wheeling a new trail.  One of his favorite places was Heards Mountain.  He was also a NASCAR fan; and an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jeff Gordon enthusiast.  Thomas, like most properly raised gentlemen, was a Redskins fan and always rooted for the Wahoos.  He could always be found with family and friends, entertaining, and making sure you were having a good time.  Softball and corn hole tournaments were a regular event at the McDaniel household. He was everything a man should be, he helped whether he knew you or not, and he knew no stranger.

Thomas was a one-of-a-kind, beautiful, amazing, funny, and generous soul.  He will be deeply missed by his wife of five years, Susan McDaniel; sons, Scotty McDaniel and girlfriend, Kimberly Himes of Maryland, Justin Thompson and girlfriend, Skye Adkins, Jason Thompson and wife, Dion, and Tippy McDaniel and fiancé, Lisa Shifflett; daughter, Brandi McDaniel; grand-daughters, Natalee McDaniel of Maryland, and Vanessa Thompson; father and mother-in-law, Hoover and Alice Dickers; sisters-in-law, Liz Nay and fiance, Roland Micklem, and Martha Vest and fiancé, Ricky Kidd; and best friends, Mike Townsend, Jim Cowen, Robert Hogue, and Raymond Charron.

A visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Southside Church of God with a Memorial Service to follow at 7p.m.

The family would like to thank the Martha Jefferson Oncology staff, Dr. Erika Struble, and Hospice of the Piedmont for their love, care, and support shown during Thomas's illness.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Thomas's name to Southside Church of God, 1807 Avon Street Extended, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300 Charlottesville, VA 22911.  Friends may sign a guest register book at teaguefuneralhome.com.
